Spot koalas snoozing at the Hanson Bay Sanctuary and later, soak up the history of the early settlers at Grassdale glass in-hand as shy-by-day marsupials venture out to graze.

Late afternoon, take a short drive to the nearby Hanson Bay Sanctuary. Once pastoral land, the privately-owned 5,000 acre conservancy is a mecca for furry and feathered native wildlife. The Koala Walk meanders among a stand of towering eucalypt trees and is the best place on the island to see a sustainable population of koalas in the wild.

A short drive away is the historic property of Grassdale. Soak up the history of the early island settlers and watch as local wildlife venture out to graze. Observe the endemic ‘Kangaroo Island Kangaroos’ in their natural environment while sipping premium South Australian beverages and sampling snacks from the lodge’s pop-up bar surrounded by the quiet stillness of the bush. As the sun dips down, take a moment of reflection as a sense of the landscape’s isolated beauty takes hold.

The experience is included in the tariff and is offered on an intimate shared basis with fellow guests at a scheduled time.
