Southern Ocean Lodge
Baillie Lodges is an intimate portfolio of luxury lodges setting new benchmarks for premium experiential travel in Australian style. Set in exclusive locations of unique natural or cultural significance, the boutique properties appeal to the discerning global traveller seeking a remarkable experience. Baillie Lodges was founded in 2003 by life and business partners James and Hayley Baillie, who together bring a wealth of high end tourism experience to this dynamic venture.
Capella Lodge on Lord Howe Island was the first property in the Baillie Lodges boutique portfolio. World Heritage-listed Lord Howe is home to the world’s most southerly coral reef and is much-loved by new and returning guests seeking ‘barefoot luxury’. Fresh local cuisine and first-name service are on the menu in this in a subtropical escape.
Globally celebrated Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island is Australia’s most acclaimed luxury wilderness lodge. Australia’s answer to the Galapagos, Kangaroo Island is teeming with native wildlife and guests encounter sea lions, fur seals, kangaroos and koalas up close. The luxurious clifftop retreat combines contemporary design with superb fine dining in a tribute to the wildly beautiful surrounds.
In 2017, Baillie Lodges launched a new era of Australian luxury lodging with the reopening of iconic outback camp Longitude 131° at Uluru-Kata Tjuta following a significant redesign. Safari-style tented pavilions float above rust-red dunes, offering guests a view of Uluru from the end of the bed. Longitude 131° is the only accommodation with views to both World Heritage-listed icons Uluru and Kata Tjuta.
Planning is now underway for Baillie Lodges’ next venture, a luxury wilderness retreat on Tasmania’s rugged southeast coast. Set to open in 2020, Remarkable Lodge on the picturesque Tasman Peninsula will rest on its own spectacular headland close to the World Heritage-listed Port Arthur historic site.
Capella Lodge, Longitude 131° and Southern Ocean Lodge are honoured as founding members of Luxury Lodges of Australia, celebrating a new era of Australian experiential luxury accommodation and adventure.
