Two years after Baillie Lodges’ award-winning
flagship property Southern Ocean Lodge was
razed in the Kangaroo Island bushfires,
company founders James and Hayley formally
marked the start of building in a sod turning
ceremony on the lodge’s original site on KI’s
remote southwest coast, breaking the ground
using a shovel retrieved from the ashes.
Southern Ocean Lodge features consistently favourably in the press both at home and across the globe.
Roy Eccleston, Editor of SA Weekend, discovers the wild side of Kangaroo Island from the warm luxury of Southern Ocean Lodge.
‘In daylight, it’s easy to see why this spot was chosen for a world-beating lodge promising exclusive, opulent, isolation. Situated on a cliff overlooking Hanson Bay, there’s nothing but churning sea between here and Antarctica. Low slung in the landscape, crouched under the southwesterlies, it’s perfectly situated to take advantage of a view that incorporates the elemental beauty and danger that Kangaroo Island throws up’.
