Southern Ocean Lodge
Expedition Kangaroo Island
Southern Ocean Lodge announces an inaugural 7-night expedition in July 2010. Created in the spirit of well-loved Lord Howe Island expeditions at Capella Lodge, an unforgettable adventure of education and exploration awaits.
Kangaroo Island is widely regarded as Australia's Galapagos with its abundance of native wildlife thriving in freedom. Exceptional guided experiences and adventures will allow a first hand wildlife encounter accompanied by renowned KI naturalist Craig Wickham.
The cool season sees Kangaroo Island at its wild, wintry best; the island comes alive as the Southern Ocean is at first heaving, twisted by fierce storms with stories of ships dashed against rocks by night; then glassy calm, cobalt blue against the chalk white limestone cliffs as a Southern Right Whale might slip by, tipping a fin in salute en route to the Great Australian Bight to calve.
Native wildlife emerges from the shelter of the shade so precious in summer to roam freely, to the delight of all. Kangaroo and koala joeys venture from their mothers' pouches, and the female echidna heads a train of up to eight keen male contenders, who'll follow her till the prickly end!
Kangaroo Island is an inspirational place for a memorable expedition. The week-long program commences Saturday 24 July 2010.
Prices start at $6,900 per person twin share including airfares ex Adelaide, interpretive walks & lectures, all land and marine experiences, luxury accommodation, all dining and all beverages.
